In Matthew Chapter 2, the gospel writer records the turmoil and hostile political climate in nearby Jerusalem.
Those in authority do not seem to notice or even welcome a messiah. At least not one delivered in such austere and humble methods.
Scholars take no notice. An illegitimate and paranoid king feels threatened by a child. Foreigners come to celebrate a special birth.
1. Jesus can and does come in times of great uncertainty. What seems uncertain in your life these days?
2. In Jesus, the hope of the world relied on a child. How do you feel you measure up to your current calling or task in life?
3. Even in the worst of times….God is with us. How has God comforted you recently? Who or what did He use to do so?

Close with this prayer: O God, by the leading of a star you manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know you now by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
